When the Solo concert was about to open
at the Southern Theater, Perimeter Productions was uniquely placed to
create a trailer advertising the show, as they had already filmed
countless hours of footage for the Solo documentary centered around the
concert. Using a section of the piece Still Life by composer Mary Ellen
Childs, the trailer was designed to create excitement about a show by
the six awarded dancers and their chosen choreographers.
The
Irresistible Rise of Big Daddy Ubu, an original play by Josh Cragun of
nimbus theatre, centered on corrupt and vulgar Big Daddy Ubu and his
political rise in a quest for power and money. The play was timed to go
up just before the November 2008 elections, and the trailer was
designed to connect to the elections, while still giving a sense of the
play itself. In a parody of Hillary Clinton’s infamous 3 am ad,
we see what happens when Big Daddy Ubu is the one picking up the phone.
